DRAINAGE & EROSION CONTROL

Line

Most people don’t think about drainage and erosion control. If it’s working correctly it basically becomes an invisible part of landscapes, streetscapes and home sites. If it’s not working or working poorly it becomes a nightmare very fast. Flooding, water damage and erosion are signs of poor planning and construction. With our unpredictable mountain weather natural flooding can occur any where in Eagle County at any time. Man made drainage and erosion issues can sometimes be even worse so it’s critical that every site from Gypsum to Vail, Eagle to Edwards, be protected and inspected. Every building and landscape is at risk without adequate grading, erosion controls and subsurface drainage pipe to carry off water safely. Don’t let your landscape or home site be damaged by water or snow. Mountainous communities like Cordillera, Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch and Vail should always be aware of the potential damage that can occur from running water. Proper surface grading away from foundations and features can protect your landscape and home. Proper installation of drainage pipe can carry off water to safe daylight locations where runoff can be handled. Protect your Vail Valley home by installing the proper drainage and erosion control measures, it can potentially save you expensive fines and clean ups. Remember also, trees and turf grasses suffer because of poor drainage, so protect your plant material and your investments by having adequate drainage and erosion control measures installed and inspected.

FENCING

Line

Fencing can be permanent or temporary. It can be simple or elaborate. It can define, protect and beautify your property. We have experience working with wood, metal and synthetic fence materials and we can use them to enhance your landscape and home. The steep terrain in Vail, Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch and Avon may deter other companies but not SHC Landscape. We have experience with all types of materials and sites so whether you have a ranch to fence in Gypsum or a new yard to protect in Cordillera let us help you design and build a fence that accomplishes your goals. Whether it’s keeping the dog in or the deer out we can help. There are so many handsome building materials to choose from and it’s easy to change the look and function of your property with quality fencing.

FLOWER & SHRUB BED MAINTENANCE

Line

Flower and shrub bed maintenance is always a key part of an overall landscape maintenance program. Clean, trimmed, weed free bedding areas are almost always the focal point of a landscape and can really set your property apart from others. We know that there are many beautiful homes in the Vail Valley but if you want your Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch or Cordillera home to stand out consider professional flower bed maintenance. Nothing else will detail out your property like well kept bedding areas. We encourage a thorough spring clean up which includes weeding, pruning and the removal of dead material. Follow that up with some new mulch and regular maintenance during the growing summer months before ending the season with a fall clean up that prepares the beds for winter. We all know once winter comes we can not work in our flower beds, even in Gypsum, Eagle and Edwards, the snow will bury the best intensions. So, before the snow flies it’s important to cutback your perennials, pull out annual flowers, weed beds and prune trees and shrubs. This work will make your gardens healthy going into winter and eliminate a lot of spring clean up too. Communities that have a lot of trees like Vail, Mountain Star, Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch and Cordillera will want to make sure that all the fallen leaves are removed from bedding areas before winter. These are the services that keep your property looking sharp and healthy.

FLOWER POTS & BOXES

Line

These colorful accents are often the highlight around spectacular homes throughout the Vail Valley. Custom grown pots, boxes and baskets will brighten any home and garden. Flowers and plants can be selected that will thrive any where in Eagle County. The warmer days and nights in Eagle and Gypsum will support many varieties of blooming plants while up valley our chilly nights might require hardier varieties to be planted. Up valley or down, bright flowers, full planters, large pots and hanging baskets make beautiful additions to any landscape and can make outdoor living areas, patios and walkways into little sanctuaries that make you and your guests feel special. Don’t forget that baskets, pots and boxes can be used to enhance a party or a special occasion too. We can supply flowers with colors to match your home, your theme or your mood. And don’t forget, early ordering is important so these beauties can be delivered from Gypsum to Vail when the weather and plants are at their best.

GRADING & EARTH MOVING

Line

So you have a job requiring heavy equipment and experienced operators. No problem! We have a full line of heavy equipment ready to tackle any job, big or small. The terrain in and around our mountainous communities can be tricky when it comes to excavation, grading and earth moving. We have experience handling these conditions throughout Eagle County. From Gypsum to Eagle, Avon to Vail, we’ve completed projects that other landscape companies can’t. It’s just another example of the full line of services we offer as one of the Vail Valleys design/build construction contractors. We do it all, and at a competitive price too. We can put a finish grade on your lawn and garden or haul off heavy rocks and debris. You name it. If you’re in need of a loader, backhoe, skid steer, mini excavator, trucks or trailers we can help. Call us so we can visit your site and give you a complete, competitive quote.

LANDSCAPE LIGHTING

Line

Nothing is more dramatic than a beautiful landscape lit up at night. Landscape lighting can add beauty, interest and safety to your property. Whether you’re lighting up that perfect tree or the walkway to your front door, landscape lighting makes a statement about your home. Clients throughout the Vail Valley have benefited from the beauty and utility of landscape lighting. No matter which community you live in we can incorporate appropriate landscape lighting into your design and outdoor living space. We believe that it is important to be able to utilize and enjoy your property, day and night. Beauty, safety and style, think about it, and consider installing lights during the construction phase of your landscape project.

OUTDOOR LIVING AREAS

Line

Our great summer weather here in the Vail Valley means that people are outside day and night enjoying the beautiful surroundings we call home. Warm nights in Eagle and Gypsum mean people are on the back deck having friends over for a BBQ or special event. Families are outside at Cordillera soaking up a sunset or watching an approaching storm cloud. From Vail to Beaver Creek, Avon to Edwards, more and more people are realizing that outdoor living areas add quality, beauty and interest to their lives. Your patios and lawn should be a place where you can live, play and enjoy yourself. Our staff can design and build an outdoor living area complete with seating, lighting, cooking facilities and shelter. This is where you should gather, entertain and just relax. Let our staff build the patios, decks and seating areas that will bring the outdoors closer and give you a space you can enjoy and share family and friends.

PAVERS & FLAGSTONE PATIOS

Line

Rock work, pavers, decks, patios and stairs can add beauty, safety and utility to your landscapes and outdoor areas. Materials can be easily selected to match your Vail Valley home. Whether you choose natural stone or brick our staff of professional craftsmen can put together walkways, patios and decks that are beautiful and functional. Flagstone walkways through your yard and gardens can control traffic patterns and safely access steep areas. Patios and decks can create and define areas of interest around your home and give you a place to gather and entertain. Don’t forget to include outdoor lighting when designing and building your patios and walkways.

PROPERTY CLEAN UP

Line

In April as the snow melts off our properties in Gypsum, Eagle and Edwards the ritual of spring clean up begins. A spring clean up of turf grass and landscape areas can be one of the simplest yet most important services we offer. This alone will not bring a lawn back from the stresses of winter but it will go a long way towards getting new growth started and the nasty leftovers of winter like leaves, dead branches, snow mold and cinders, out of your way. Up valley in Avon, Vail and Beaver Creek clean up may not begin until May but is a must because of the lingering snow cover. We include power raking in this service because it really helps to remove debris, dead plant material and thatch giving your lawn a chance to breathe. In the fall a thorough clean up is even more important. Fallen leaves can smother a lawn, preventing light from reaching the grass. Wet leaves are even worse. They not only block out light but form a slimy layer that keeps air from reaching the turf. Spring and fall clean ups are recommended but we realize that you might have a project on your property requiring general clean up in the summer too. Just give us a call and we will be happy to quote your work on an individual basis.

RE-DESIGN AND UPGRADES

Line

As our lives change often times so do our homes, our activities and our tastes. Additions and changes to our properties and landscapes are no different. Many of us live in maturing communities from Gypsum to Vail and sometimes we’re just ready for something new. Allow our design and construction teams to re-design and upgrade your landscape to fit your new vision. New plantings, new irrigation, new walkways and patios can bring an older property back to life. Whether you’re in Eagle, Edwards, Avon or Beaver Creek, from time to time even the most beautiful landscapes need a face lift. Inject new life into your Vail Valley property with a re-model, an upgrade or an addition. Remember too, if you’re trying to market or sell your property a first and lasting impression are often made by the landscaping. Invest in your investment.

RETAINING WALLS

Line

Retaining walls can add beauty, safety and extra usable space into your landscape. Steeply sloping building sites like in Vail, Beaver Creek and Cordillera are common here and retaining walls can make a huge difference in how you protect, use and maintain your property. We have experience building walls out of stone, boulders, bricks and timbers. We have the equipment to handle large jobs and heavy materials so let your imagination run wild and use retaining walls to protect, enhance, define and compliment your gardens, lawns and landscapes.

SEEDING, SODDING & HYDRO-MULCHING

Line

These services are often the last thing done as one completes a landscape project and puts the icing on the cake. We have the experience and knowledge to successfully seed, sod and hydro-mulch all types of turf grasses and native areas. These re-vegetations and erosion control measures are not only important but often required for the completion of many projects. Whether it’s growing in a thick, lush lawn in Eagle or establishing a wildflower hillside in Beaver Creek we can get the job done right the first time. We will properly grade your site, add the needed soil amendments, put down pre-plant fertilizers and install the correct irrigation to make your grassing project a success. Talk to us about the grasses, native plants and wildflowers that grow and thrive in Eagle County. We understand the climate, the soils and the plants that grow well from Gypsum to East Vail. Let us show what we can grow.

TREE CARE

Line

Beautiful and healthy trees have defined Eagle County and the communities of the Vail Valley for as long as people have lived here! Because of this we offer a number of services to insure that your trees are happy and well taken care of. Pruning and trimming trees and shrubs can remove dead wood as well as stimulate new, full growth. We recommend pruning in the spring and fall depending on the species and the needs of the specific tree. Tree and shrub fertilization is another critical part of tree care that promotes health, vigor and longevity. For best results we use “deep root feeding” techniques where liquid fertilizers are injected into the root zone (12” to 18” deep in most cases) where nutrients are readily taken up and utilized. It is important to know that tree roots remain active until the soil temperatures drop below 40 degrees. This is several weeks after the leaves have dropped in the fall, and a few weeks before they appear in the spring so consistent feedings are important. Proper pruning and fertilization can help trees grow strong and resist pests, disease and the stresses of cold, heat and drought. However, if your trees do need to be sprayed curatively or preventatively for insects or diseases we offer a full service spray operation that can diagnose and treat problems using custom formulations that really work. We also offer tree guard products that can be placed around the base of your trees to protect them from mower and string trimmer damage. When necessary we offer tree moving and tree removal too. All these services are especially important to our clients in heavily wooded communities like Vail, Beaver Creek and Cordillera but people in Eagle, Edwards and Avon should be taking advantage as well because we all know replacing specimen trees can be costly, messy and time consuming. Please consider our full line of tree services so your trees can live long and look great.

WATER FEATURES

Line

There’s nothing like the look and sound of a mountain stream unless you have a water feature built by SHC Landscape. A water feature can be the crowning touch to any magnificent landscape and our professional staff will be happy to design and build one for you. The mountain terrain in and around Vail, Beaver Creek, Edwards and Avon offers the perfect opportunity to utilize natural contours and elevation changes to create dramatic and beautiful cascades of water. Features can include streams, pools, waterfalls and lighting. We can also create pond-less designs that are clean, efficient and beautiful. We will help you select the right pumps, pipes, liners and materials for your site. Indigenous rocks can be harvested on your property and used for construction or stones, boulders and gravel can be chosen from off site to match your home and existing landscape. If you are fortunate enough to have natural flowing water on your property, we can enhance it. If you want to create a feature from scratch we can design it, excavate it, build it, landscape it and maintain it. Don’t forget that water features and pumps need to be maintained and winterized each year. Let us show you some of the excellent examples of our work so you can envision a water feature on your property.

XERISCAPING

Line

Water usage and water savings have become common topics in the Vail Valley when discussing landscape design, construction and maintenance. Xeriscaping and the philosophy of using little or no water to grow and maintain sustainable landscapes has become very popular in Gypsum, Eagle and other dry areas of Eagle County. The use of drought resistant native plants and the avoidance of thirsty turf grasses mean these landscapes are simple, practical, and very beautiful in their own way. With the proper selection of plants, mulches, stones and irrigation these xeriscapes can become nearly maintenance free and that appeals to many clients. We at SHC Landscape have experience designing and installing xeriscape projects and we believe that the future of landscaping will forever incorporate these water saving philosophies. Contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss if your home or business could benefit from a xeriscape construction or re-model. We encourage clients throughout the Vail Valley to look into the possibilities.
